Dalam sekejap mata Holly Berenson (Katherine Heigl) dan Eric Messer (Josh Duhamel) harus menjadi ayah dan ibu dari Sophie (Juliet Schmidt) yang ditinggal mati orang tuanya. Bayangkan saja betapa paniknya mereka berdua karena pada dasarnya Holly dan Eric sama-sama tak sepaham. Kalaupun ada kesamaan di antara mereka, itu hanyalah rasa saling tidak suka di antara mereka.
Sejak kencan pertama pun Holly dan Eric sudah menyadari kalau mereka berdua tak akan bisa cocok. Masalahnya, sekarang mereka terpaksa harus menyisihkan ego mereka karena Sophie sudah tak punya siapa-siapa lagi. Merawat Sophie bukanlah sebuah keterpaksaan buat Holly dan Eric karena mereka berdua sama-sama menyayangi Sophie. Hanya saja Holly tak tahan dengan tingkah laku Eric dan begitu juga sebaliknya.
Masalah Holly dan Eric bukan hanya itu. Holly harus menjalankan bisnis kateringnya sementara Eric adalah seorang sutradara acara olahraga di sebuah stasiun televisi. Mereka punya jadwal sendiri-sendiri sementara mereka juga harus berbagi jadwal untuk merawat Sophie. Sanggupkah dua orang berbeda prinsip hidup ini tinggal di bawah satu atap demi bayi mungil yang sama-sama mereka cintai?
Satu lagi film komedi yang terjebak formula film komedi Hollywood. Tak ada yang benar-benar fresh dari LIFE AS WE KNOW IT ini. Akan lebih tepat kalau film ini disebut sebagai sebuah film recycle karena hampir semua adegan dalam film ini bisa kita dapatkan dari film-film komedi yang telah muncul lebih dulu. Kenapa? Tak ada yang tahu persis jawabnya.
Yang jelas, ada banyak 'kesalahan' dalam film ini. Yang pertama adalah logika. Coba saja bayangkan, mana mungkin ada orang yang 'mewariskan' tugas merawat anak mereka pada orang lain tanpa memberi tahu orang yang bersangkutan. Nyatanya logika itu sudah dilanggar pada saat naskah film ini ditulis dan sejak saat itu pula kisah yang ditawarkan dijamin tak akan bisa 'menyentuh' penonton.
Masalah berikutnya adalah tidak adanya kreativitas untuk membuat visualisasi dari naskah yang sudah salah tadi. Salah satu yang membuat penonton merasa 'wah' adalah saat mereka menyaksikan adegan yang tak pernah mereka dapatkan dari film-film sebelumnya. Kesan itu akan melekat kuat bahkan setelah film berakhir dan itulah yang membuat sebuah film jadi legendaris.
Yang parah lagi, Katherine Heigl tak bisa menghidupkan karakter Holly yang ia perankan. Kalau Anda perhatikan, akting Katherine dalam film ini tak beda dengan aktingnya dalam film KILLERS, padahal bisa saja ia memberikan sentuhan baru pada karakter Holly dan bukannya membuatnya jadi sama dengan karakter Jen Kornfeldt. Di saat yang sama, Josh Duhamel pun tak berbuat banyak untuk menghidupkan karakternya.
